Taking breaks as a creator can be scary. You think all the momentum you’ve built over a certain period will just vanish. People will forget you. But that's not the case. Sure you may lose a little bit of momentum as your consistent schedule which you’ve taken months, even years has changed which some of your viewers haven’t realised, especially if you stream. But this shouldn’t deter you. Here are my top tips if you’re a creator or/and streamer and you’re getting ready to jet off someone or simply just disconnect for a few days or weeks.
Preparation
Going away for a few days or a couple of weeks can be daunting. All of the time you’re losing which would normally be focusing on research, content, posting, streaming is now gone but that’s not a bad thing. It means you’re putting some focus on yourself and hopefully relaxing! But in order for you to be able to relax you’ll have a lot of prep work to do first. While you’re away, to keep the momentum up on your socials, make sure you’ve got your video planned in advance, filmed and edited.
Scheduling
Along with preparation, scheduling is key. Your content rules don’t need to follow your usual schedule which may have been everyday. Feel free to tone this down slightly to make it manageable to prepare for. That means whilst you’re away you remain an online presence on TikTok and Youtube and Instagram. If you’re a Twitter or X user, also think about using their online scheduling tool before you jet off. Or simply have a top level plan before you go away from what you might post on each day just to save you time and worry when you’re away.
Most social platforms have scheduling so make sure to make the most of tools to make your life easier.
Communication
Communication with your community is key. Make sure you keep them up to date where you can and far in advance so they’re aware of your break. Think about sharing that your schedule will be changing and the dates you’ll be away from and when you’ll be back/ This way you’ve kept the communication open and they’re pre-warned of all the holiday spam and FOMO you’re about to post. I’m sure they’ll appreciate it!
Taking time for yourself
Everyone needs a break, time to disconnect and reevaluate. Breaks are good for your mind and mental headspace so don’t ever be afraid to take a break. We aren’t robots although I’ve definitely tried to test this to far sometimes, check out this blog if you’re interested in hearing more on this.
Last but not least, it will help you come back more energised and ready than ever. Don’t forget to share some behind the scenes of your holiday whilst your at it. On a final note, if you’re a creator and struggling with your time management and content I offer 1 to 1 consultancy. Feel free to drop me a message to enquire.
